Most should know by now my opinions on prisons and capital punishment.
If you don't, read on. If you do, allow me to reiterate.
Firstly, let me speculate.
Capital punishment was invented as a way of controlling people from doing such things like stealing, raping, killing, etc. Before it was a slap on the wrist to hanged. Now all that is improved is prisons...and the Death Sentence.
Now, what I don't understand is why people would want to waste a person's life via Death Penalty when, say, that person has violated one of the Human Rights, that is, to live. That person was brought up into this world. That means somewhere along the lines resources must have been used up by this person and what has this person done in return? Work at a local 7/11?
So we basically get this equation:
Person + does nothing = -resources + nothing
Now i'm pretty sure that when you add nothing to something, you're still left with that something, without change. However this time, we're taking away something, and we left with less of what we've started out with.
And then what we do is put them into prison, or use the Death Penalty, where the TAX PAYERS have to pay in order to house and feed these people (killing them takes up electricity as well). Given a choice I doubt many would pay for that.
So what I propose is that we set them to work. Hard work. Why not have them earn for their housing and their food whilst helping the economy? Why not have them do the work that no one else wants to...for free?
And we all know that free labor is not exactly abundant now days, (kids just don't do what they're told anymore).
So this is what the new equation should look like:
Person + work = resources - what that person uses
Plus we have a huge variety of inmates, I mean there must be some tax accountants. We could use that. People who don't know jack? That's okay, we can get them to improve on the current roads.
Okay there may be some flaws such as:
1) What if the person uses more than he makes?
Solution: Not possible, this is still a prison, not a hotel.
2) If we do put them into labor doesn't it make it easier for them to escape?
Solution: Usually people who escape, try not to be found again, ie they would hide and not make a big scene. Which if they would, then we could just put them back in.
